Master of Wine
The Master of Wine (MW) title is the highest qualification in the world for general wine knowledge. The Institute of Masters of Wine in London organises exams each year. Today, there are about 250 Masters of Wine worldwide, and only two in Belgium, namely Jan Declercq MW, owner of Portovino (since 1998) and Fiona Morisson from Etikhove. The Institute of Masters of Wine is independent of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, although they work in close co-operation. The Institute of Masters of Wine advises applicants to complete the WSET® Diploma Course prior to attending the Masters of Wine courses.
